So Much For Spring.

We’ve gotten over a foot of snow over the last 24 hours. So much for thinking it was springtime.

So, to the picture above. This is what I’ve come up with for the bilge board winches. Obviously the pieces arranged on the left make the assembly that I have temporarily assembled on the right. The base piece is made of two layers of 1/2 inch ply and the sides are single thicknesses of 1/2 inch ply with epoxy bearings drilled out to 3/4 inch. The drum is 4 layers of 3/8 inch plywood cut to 2 1/2 inches diameter with a hole saw and then drilled out to 3/4 inch. The brass drum cheeks are 1/8 inch sheet brass cut out with a 4 inch hole saw. The center hole was done with a 3/4 inch hole saw. The small holes are sized for #10 countersunk screws. The axle is 3/4 inch brass rod. I should also point out that there will be a stainless pin through the drum and axle to make sure the drum can’t turn on the axle.

Still a fair bit of final work and finishing to do but I think it should work out OK.

Gotta go shovel some snow.
